O’Neill Makes It Official

Former appellate judge files his petitions for congressional bid

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio (12/28/07) – Former Appeals Court Judge Bill O’Neill made his candidacy for U.S. Congress official late yesterday when he filed his petitions at the Lake County Board of Elections. O’Neill, a Democrat, stepped down from the bench in June to launch his congressional bid.

“Spending the last six months on the trail, I can tell you that the people of Northeast Ohio are frustrated with what is going on in Washington,” O’Neill said. “They see a Congress that is not doing its job, and they want to send a real leader to Washington, not someone who is captive to the lobbyists and special interests. Most of all they want to send someone to Congress who, like them, is hungry for change.”

O’Neill served two terms on Ohio’s 11th District Court of Appeals in Warren. Though retired from the bench, O’Neill still works on-call as a registered nurse (most recently on Christmas morning) in the Pediatric Emergency Department of Hillcrest Hospital, an affiliate of the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. In October, he broke a fundraising record for first-time candidates in Ohio’s 14th congressional district.
