O'Neill Thanks Supporters

Democrat nominee received more votes in a three-way race
than his uncontested Republican challenger

CHAGRIN FALLS (March 5, 2008) - Bill O'Neill earned 63 percent of the vote in a three-way Democratic race in Ohio's 14th congressional district. The former Ohio Court of Appeals judge also earned 8,000 more votes than his Republican opponent, Steven LaTourette, who was uncontested in the primary. O'Neill issued the following the statement:

"In every region of this district we saw voters overwhelmingly voting for change. I think it's clear that Congressman LaTourette is going to have to answer the tough questions when it comes to the issues voters care most about in Northeast Ohio - jobs, health care and the war in Iraq. And I believe we're in a great position to win in the fall."

O'Neill also thanked his supporters in an email late Tuesday night.

"You came out today in amazing numbers. In the rain. In the sleet. Even in the dark. And you have given me a huge win tonight.

"I cannot begin to tell you how grateful I am for all your help. Democrats all over this district are excited,  and today as I traveled from polling location to polling location I felt it. This district is ready for change. As I type this email, it looks like we will emerge from this primary with more votes than my Republican opponent, who did not have any opposition in the primary.

"We are in the strongest of positions to win this fall. And I have you to thank for that.

"I want to take a moment to also thank my fellow Democrats, John Greene and Dale Blanchard. They are both great candidates, and I am proud to have run with them. Now on to victory in November!"
